Improving local environments the Rendall & Rittner way

12

In recent years, volunteers from Rendall & Rittner have taken part in a plethora of litter picks. Litter picks are a fantastic way to promote sustainability, support the environment and improve the cleanliness of the area for local residents to enjoy. During 2022, the team at Rendall & Rittner has once again completed a series of volunteering days to undertake litter picks at locations up and down the country. Tackling waste and unwanted material in the areas surrounding some of the developments we manage, we got stuck in and embraced the challenge. With Recycle Week this year running from the 17th to 23rd October, we thought that this was the perfect opportunity to provide a round-up of our recent litter picks.

May 2022

On the 23rd of May we headed to Woodberry Down in North London with bin liners at the ready. With 42 acres of open water and 15 acres of landscaped parkland located around the development, there was plenty of ground for the team to cover. Despite the persistent rain cutting the litter pick short, the team was able to help clean up the local environment for residents and wildlife to enjoy. It was also great to see the cygnets enjoying the waterways!

Just a few days later, the 27th of May was a busy day for litter picks, as teams set to work at both Chiswick Gate in West London and Lumiere in Manchester. It was great to see the impact that these efforts made to the areas surrounding the developments. Not only does it support the wildlife living in these ecosystems, but it also makes the areas more appealing for the local communities to enjoy.

June 2022

June was a busy month, with four litter picks taking place across the country. On the 1st of June, areas surrounding St George Wharf in Vauxhall received a makeover. On the 6th of June, Nottingham One was the focus of our efforts, whilst the team at Tudor Close in Brixton got stuck in, in local park and common land, on the 7th of June. At all of these sites everyone involved felt a great sense of achievement as they joined together to support such great local causes.

Our last litter pick in June was in Milton Keynes. In an amazing effort, almost the entire team from the Assistant Property Managers through to the Divisional Directors took part. Covering an area of approximately 4 kilometres, the seven-person team scoured Redway paths, canal-sides, roadsides, woodlands and parkland!

July 2022

On the 12th of July, working alongside our client, at PLATFORM in Crawley, our litter pick was a great success thanks to the dedication of all involved. We were delighted to be able to give back to the community and fill numerous bags with rubbish.

The team at Royal Arsenal Riverside completed their litter pick on the 29th of July. According to the Canal & River Trust, around 14 million pieces of plastic rubbish end up in our canals and rivers each year. Completing this litter pick along the banks of the River Thames provided an excellent opportunity to remove waste before it had the opportunity to pollute the water.

September 2022

During September, we partnered up with some incredible organisations to complete a further two litter picks. On the 8th of September, we worked alongside Thames21 to remove debris from the area surrounding Kidbrooke Village. Thames21 is committed to ensuring that London’s 400 miles of waterways are kept clean, safe and sustainable and are able to continue providing vital services for local communities and wildlife.

For our latest litter pick, we returned to Woodberry Down, this time having teamed up with the London Wildlife Trust. With London’s wildlife under threat, areas like the beautiful green spaces at Woodberry Down provide essential habitats. As footpaths provide a clear route for those looking to explore these areas, whilst also giving nature its own space to thrive undisturbed, the team set to work clearing the river walk of brambles and overgrown grass. It was a lot of hard work, but it was rewarding to see the impact of everyone’s efforts.

We would like to thank everyone that has contributed to the success of our litter picks. We very much hope to continue with cleans like this in the years to come.
